According to a decade-long study conducted by Virginia Tech, incorporating both seaweed extracts and humic acid into your gardening routine can have a significant impact on plant growth and health. The research found that using these organic bio-stimulants in a 5:2 ratio proved to be 50% more effective than using either product alone. This information was personally verified by the author during a Master Grow course taught by Harley Smith, who saw successful results across various stages of the plants' growth.

The study showed that combining humic acid and seaweed extract encouraged the growth of lateral roots and root mass, allowing plants to absorb water and nutrients more efficiently. The treated plants also demonstrated improved resilience to heat and water stress, recovering from stress much faster, and displayed better color and higher levels of vitamins and natural plant protection agents.

Another exciting outcome from the study was the increase in SOD (superoxide dismutase) production in plants treated with the humic acid and seaweed combination. SOD acts as a powerful antioxidant enzyme and plant protection agent, guarding cell membranes, chlorophyll membranes, and mitochondrial membranes against harmful oxidative stress. When cell membranes are protected, plants can grow more efficiently, and under stress, SOD helps to protect the plant from the damaging effects of free radicals. Using the 5:2 ratio of humic acid and seaweed can help gardeners enhance their plants' growth and ensure they are operating at peak efficiency. Happy growing!
